China is distinct as corruption in the country takes its form in “profit-sharing” activities, as opposed to other countries where the corruption is focused more on “rent-seeking”, which can be seen in India. An example of this is when local governments create partnerships with local businesses in a “guanxi social circle network”, which is an informal social institution who maintains a circle of benefits that is the main objective for those involved in the corruption. “Guanxi” is “relationship” in Chinese.
