Experimental research design is where the the researcher is able to test his/her hypothesis by reaching “valid conclusions about relationships between independent and dependent variables” (Key, 1997). In order to have a experimental research design the researcher needs to be able to define and identify the problem, formulate a hypothesis and assume a consequence. There must be a sample of subjects, conduct a pilot study, determine the time, place and duration of experiment, identify and control non experimental factors. There must be a independent variable that can be manipulated.

Nonexperimental research design is “lacks the manipulation of an independent variable or the random assignment of participants to conditions or orders of conditions. is research that lacks the manipulation of an independent variable, random assignment of participants to conditions or orders of conditions, or both” (Saylor, 2018). This type of research has much less control than the experimental research design.
