As a nursing student, you are expected to craft clear, concise, and grammatically correct sentences.  Your skills to provide quality care to your patients are demonstrated in your ability to appropriately express your concerns. Prior to finalizing your research paper, watch this video to help remind you of the steps used in applying the writing process.

Write 200–250 words using the discussion prompts to guide your content. Then, respond to at least two of your peers’ posts in a substantive manner. “I agree” or “Good point” are not accepted as substantive responses to your peers.

Discussion Prompts

  • Describe your strengths and challenges in regard to writing prior to this course. How has your writing changed? Explain.
  • How does this class prepare you for writing in your future career as a nurse?
  • Which part of the writing process do you feel confident about (thoughtful, carefully crafted, or relatively free from errors), and why?

For this first component of your SLP, you are to choose a health science-related topic for your “term paper.” You may choose the same topic you have chosen in Module 1 Case  

           (PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE)

 but it has to meet the criteria noted below. Only students who have received topic approval may proceed to the next section of the SLP.

  1. Present your topic in 1-2 pages, noting the subject’s novelty and relevance. Novel—literature on the topic is non-existent, inconsistent, or limited. Relevant—addresses an important health problem, serious, affecting many people, interesting for the research community.
  2. Comment on the availability of library resources/materials on which you will base your paper.

Length: The written component of this assignment should be 1-2 pages long (double-spaced).
