My home bag  is very incomplete because my husband and I are in the midst of a move so almost everything is packed away in boxes, including most of our supplies. I have a water filter, dog food, dog treats, first aid kit , baby formula and face masks available for my go bag. I also have my prescription medication that is not pictured here for privacy reasons.  I am missing water bottles, blankets, batteries, flashlight, canned food, radio, matches and lighter. My area is high risk for earthquakes and for fires which is why having supplies like the ones in my bag and the ones I listed that I am missing are important. I have a husband, newborn and 2 miniature schnauzers so thats why I included the dog food, treats and infant formula. I do not feel prepared to help others in my community when it comes to supplies right now because of my current move and everything being packed away in boxes.I can only hope that the disaster doesn’t happen until everything is moved and unpacked again. This experience was an eye opener about how important it is to always stay prepared even in the midst of major changes and events because nobody can predict when the next disaster hits.

In my home go bag, I have included a camping tent and sleeping bags, a backpack to put all my items in, sunblock, a first aid kit, allergy medication, insect repellent, bandaids, Vicks vaporub, canned food and dried food, mouthwash, and wipes.

Because I live in the Ventura County area and live by the mountains, we tend to get a lot of fires.  There have been 2 times where we were almost evacuated from our home because of the fires, so we purchased a bigger tent and heavy-duty sleeping bags and mats just in case (also, because we love to camp).  My fiance gets allergies and has some breathing challenges, so the allergy medication and Vicks vaporub would help him in case.  I have braces so it’s always important to have mouthwash with me, especially during a fire.  First aid kit should always be included in case someone gets injured and I included an extra supply of bandaids for emergency.  Water is always important to have, and because I drink a lot of water, I know that this will be important in an emergency.  And, of course, wipes.  You never know when you’ll need wipes! What I always have on me but I couldn’t find in my house are my tools, flashlight, and rope.  These items are always great to have, and it is important to carry them in case of an emergency.  Also, more canned food, clothes, and appropriate shoes, and more medication (Tylenol, Ibuprofen) would help in case a community member is in need of these medications.
