Discussion 1 week 3 ENG 125 Introduction to LiteratureRespond to Peers: Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. Each response should be at least 75 words in length and should address two or more of the following:Do you agree with your classmates’ perspectives? Why, or why not? Be specific.Ask a specific question to encourage further discussion on the topic.Challenge your classmates’ interpretation of literature and/or point of view.Do a small amount of research and share what you learn with your peers about the topic discussed in this post.Samantha SalomonPart one:Identify the theme of the poem. How do you know this is the theme? The theme of the poem is pride and I know this because from just reading the poem you can tell that the pool players will do as they please without having to feel that there being judged in any way.Poetic Devices:Rhythm: The rhythm of the poem is all the same throughout the whole poem it doesn’t seem off track when you actually read it.Sound: The sound of the poem is put together to be able to understand what Gwendolyn is trying to say through each line has its own meaning to it by just the way it sounds. The poetic devices contribute to the development of the poem’s message by making sure that everything that is being said makes sense to the reader. It all has meaning as to why Gwendolyn wrote it.Part two:When the poem is recited it aloud its much easier to understand than reading it to yourself because you are able to know what the meaning is just by hearing the word come out from either the one who wrote it or someone who is reading it to you. When I heard the poem aloud Gwendolyn put a lot of emphasizes  on the word “We” something I didn’t do because it was different from when I read it to myself. The pace didn’t change from when i read it to when i heard it come from Gwendolyn. Its worthwhile analyzing because your able to see what she meant when you hear it aloud because you can hear all the meaning behind it through her voice.Kevin LennonI choose to wright about “We Real Cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks. I believe that the theme stands out. The “breaking from the establishment” (Brooks, G 1983) as Miss Brooks said. The theme is repeated in each line telling the reader how cool it is to be different. There are three poetic devices that are used throughout this poem. The rhythm is there but different for some people. With the very short sentences and the use of “We” at the end of every line gives the poem an emphasis on the word. Repetition is also used on every line. Again “We” is used as well as the repetitive theme. There is very little fluff. On top of that, she was able to rhyme with significance, on each line. All three elements were put together well and with very little word usage. The simplicity of “We Real Cool”, allows the reader to reread the poem over and over while changing the rhythm as they read. She used two words on each line to make her point. Thin gin, left school and sing sin quickly describes how these pool players were different. The pool hall, I believe also has a significance. “The Golden Shovel” is a name that might mean digging for gold or finding gold or money at the end of a shovel.Reading this poem was a bit different than hearing Gwendolyn Brooks read it.  I read it in a less than emphasized way than how she performed it. I say performed because that’s well I felt she did. Her emphasis on “We” sounded so good that I wish I could recreate it. The pauses after each “We” were different than I would have done. To get the full meaning and feel of  a poem, for me reading it aloud is necessary. It is like watching a silent movie and then watching one with sound. You walk away with different feelings about each.Brooks, G. (1983, May 3). We real cool [Audio file]. Retrieved from http://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poem/we-real-cool
