Interdisciplinary Educational Opportunity

Assignment Overview

As a Registered Nurse, you play a key role in bringing professionals together to promote equitable, culturally responsive care. In this assignment, you will design a brief interdisciplinary educational opportunity focused on a health equity topic relevant to your practice, organization, or community. Your educational idea may be designed for staff development, community education, or patient/family outreach. The goal is to demonstrate how nurses lead through collaboration, education, and ethical communication to improve outcomes and foster inclusion.

Guidelines

Select a Health Equity Topic

  • Choose a topic connected to your practice or community needs, such as:
    • Cultural humility in patient communication
    • Language access and interpretation services
    • Rural access to behavioral health care
    • Social determinants of chronic illness management
    • LGBTQ+ inclusive care education

Identify Interdisciplinary Partners

  • List at least three (3) other disciplines (e.g., social work, pharmacy, physical therapy, nutrition, pastoral care, community health).
  • Briefly describe how each partner would contribute to developing or delivering the education based on their discipline.

Outline Your Educational Opportunity

  • Provide a concise plan that includes:
    • Goal Statement: What should participants learn or gain?
    • Target Audience: Who will attend (staff, patients, families, or community)?
    • Learning Objectives (2–3): Clear, measurable, and tied to health equity.
    • Format: e.g., in-service, workshop, online module, or health-fair booth.
    • Key Content Points: 3–4 short bullets summarizing your teaching focus.
    • Resources: Tools, frameworks, or organizations (e.g., ANA, CDC, AHRQ) that support your topic.

Connect to Equity and Ethics

  • Explain how this educational opportunity:
    • Addresses a social determinant of health or disparity,
    • Promotes culturally responsive and ethical practice, and
    • Strengthens interdisciplinary communication and teamwork.

Format

  • Include a properly formatted APA 7th Edition STUDENT Title PageLinks to an external site.(includes page numbers; NO running head).
  • Your submission should be a minimum of two (2) pages no more than four (4) pages (this does NOT include the title page and reference page).
  • Must include a minimum of three (3) scholarly references to support your paper; ONE (1) from this week’s reading, and TWO (2) from professional peer-reviewed journals published within the past seven (7) years (must be credible). You can also use professional website or .gov websites to support.
  • APA 7th Edition documents should be double-spaced, including the reference page. 
  • Must use Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri 12-pt font with 1-inch margins
