Select one of the following assignments:

1. Select a specific change initiative that has already taken place in an organization with which you are personally familiar.Write an evaluation report on that change initiative that includes all of the following:

a. Introduction: (10%)

Briefly summarize:

  • The organization and the change.
  • Your source(s) of evidence.

b. Change Overview: (30%)

  • Stakeholder analysis: who was involved in the change?
  • Problem statement: what problem was addressed by the change (or what opportunity did it attempt to grasp)?
  • Change drivers and constraints:what were the main external and internal drivers and constraints of change?
  • Cost/benefit analysis: what were the main intended benefits of change? What were the main tangible and intangible costs associated with the change?

c. Change Assessment: (40%)

  • Select a suitable change assessment model from the literature.
  • Briefly describe the model and say why you chose it
  • Apply the model to analyze your change initiative

d. Evaluation: (20%)

  • Explain and justify whether you consider the change to have been a success or some kind of failure (if the latter, state which kind).If possible, make use of your earlier outline of costs and benefits.
  • How does the outcome of change fit with your change assessment.
  • In retrospect, what lessons have been learned?Are there ways in which the change could have been handled better?Does the case suggest any lessons for the change assessment model you have utilized?

2. Select a specific change initiative that has not yet taken place in an organization with which you are personally familiar.Write a feasibility report on that change initiative that includes all of the following:

a. Introduction: (10%)

Briefly summarize:

  • The organization and the change.
  • Your source(s) of evidence.

b. Change Overview: (30%)

  • Stakeholder analysis: who will be involved in the change?
  • Problem statement: what problem is to be addressed by change (or what opportunity is it seeking to grasp)?
  • Change drivers: What are the main external and internal drivers to change?
  • Cost/benefit Analysis: What are the main intended benefits of change?
  • What are the main tangible and intangible costs likely to be associated with the change?
  • Context analysis: how else could the resources invested in this change be used instead?What will happen if this change is not undertaken?Is there anything likely to happen in the next year or so which could significantly affect the change?

c. Change Assessment: (40%)

  • Select a suitable change assessment model from the literature.
  • Briefly describe the model and say why you chose it.
  • Apply the model to analyze the feasibility of your change initiative.

d. Recommendation: (20%)

  • Explain and justify whether or not you recommend proceeding with this change.Your recommendation should be based on your assessment of drivers, your change assessment, and your assessment of costs and benefits.
  • Suggest both specific and generic actions that could be taken during the implementation process in order to increase the likelihood of success.

3. Select one of the following organizational change strategies – business process re-engineering, outsourcing, customer orientation, empowerment, knowledge management.Identify a detailed case study from the literature in which this change strategy has been implemented in an organization (do not use a case presented in class or one used in any other assignment of yours).Write a report on it containing all of the following:

a. Change Strategy Overview: (30%)

  • Define the change strategy selected.
  • Analyze the main drivers behind the change strategy.
  • Analyze the intended benefits of the change strategy.

b. Case Study Overview: (10%)

  • Provide an overview of the organization and the change.
  • Who were the main stakeholders involved in the change?

c. Change Assessment: (40%)

  • Select a suitable change assessment model from the literature.
  • Briefly describe the model and say why you chose it.
  • Apply the model to analyze your case study.

d. Evaluation (20%)

  • Summarize the main constraints to change.
  • Make an overall assessment of whether the change was a success or some kind of failure (if the latter, state which kind).Relate your evaluation to the findings from your change assessment.
  • If the change was some kind of failure, suggest both specific and generic actions that could have been taken in order to increase the likelihood of success.If it was a success, describe the positive actions that were taken during the implementation of change?
